The most iconic and classic way to consume marijuana, rolling a joint is arguably one of the most fun ways to truly enjoy the flavor of your favorite buds.
While many dispensaries do sell pre-rolled joints today, we feel that every cannabis lover should know how to roll a joint.
And there are many ways to roll one, but we need to make sure that it always burns smoothly and evenly.
Let’s begin.
How much weed should I use?
This is a valid question, especially if you are rolling your own joint for the first time. Experts always recommend using a ½ gram of weed, and a normal sized or a 11/4 size rolling paper.
In fact, many pre-rolls you can buy at your dispensary also use ½ gram of weed. Once you have mastered this art, you can always move up to king sized papers and use a whole gram or even more.
What do I need?
Luckily, rolling a joint doesn’t need that many instruments, and you can easily to it at home, at a party, or anywhere you like really. You will need
- A cannabis strain of your choice
- Rolling papers (11/4 or normal sized)
- Crutch (to create the filter)
- Grinder
- A pen or similarly shaped object
Step 1: Grind your cannabis.
Using a cannabis grinder, break your cannabis down to a shake. If you have purchased dried flower, it should be fairly easy.
We always recommend using a grinder because it is quick and efficient, and prevents your hands from getting sticky. However, if you do not have one, you can always use your blender, a pair of scissors, or even your hands.
Step 2: Create your joint crutch/filter.
You can make a crutch out of nearly anything, but most people either use cardboard or business cards. However, many joint papers do come with their own crutch material in the packaging.
Start by making a few “accordion” folds at the end of the cardboard, and then roll it to your desired thickness for your joint. And viola, your crutch is ready.
Step 3: Fill and pack your joint
Now comes the good part. Start filling your joint with the shake and the crutch. Once you have put in ½ gram or more of your favorite strain in the paper, you can start to shape it with your fingers.
Now that your paper is full, it is time to roll and pack it. Hold it in your forefingers, and roll it to and fro.
Step 4: Finish your joint
Now here you have to be very careful. Ease the unglued side of your paper into the roll and roll it up. Then, use the glued side to tack down one end of the paper, and work your way to the other end.
Many experts use just a little bit of moisture, and begin gluing with the crutch side.
Finally, use a pen, or a similar object to pack the end of the strain, and make sure that you have an even burn.
Step 5: Enjoy
Now you know the easiest, and safest way to roll your joint. Now it is time to sit back, put your feet up and enjoy your creation.
